In the fall of 2006 we were searching for a larger sailboat so that we could go cruising in the wonderful "inland sea" between Vancouver Island and the mainland of British Columbia. Kayla is not a good sailor and so I decided we needed a boat dog. I found Amy on the internet and we met her just after Christmas 2006 when she was 8 weeks old - but she stayed with her mother until she was 11 weeks old.

Amy is a companion Labrador but she was unaware of this until recently. We have met Labrador trainers who have told us that Labradors are totally untrainable until at least one year and that they often don't even recognise their own name until 9 months. We agree!!

Amy was one year old when we went to move our sailboat in Mexico and she stayed with friends for over 3 weeks. After that trip she started to become a little civilized and we live in hope of her becoming a boat dog. The new boat - Serendipity - has a hatch that is perfect for a boat dog to get in and out of the boat. She will love it as the pathway included the dining table!

Amy was very frightened of cars when she was small but now she loves them - especially to chase them. Chris has spent many unhappy half hours chasing her up and down the highway! She stopped the traffic on the Sea to Sky Highway just south of Squamish - Alex chased her that time! Chris insists that she has a criminal record in two communities as she visited the local pound here in Nanaimo and spent a full day in the pound in Whistler.

Amy sings loudly to most classical music and she is especially fond of Diana Krall's music. Others might call it howling - but I think of it as singing - Kayla talks and Amy sings.
